Archaeological Illustration & Data VisualizationIdentifying, synthesizing, and recording information communicated visually is a primary function of an researcher. One of the techniques we use to document as well as distill what we identified is archaeological illustration. And for my early years on archaeology projects, I worked as an archaeological illustrator, documenting contexts and objects deep in the jungles of Guatemala.

Art Editing & Impacting the Global Science Community
Journal of Field Archaeology, Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK
Art Editor, 2016–2019
Art Editor, 2016–2019
When I was brought on as the Art Editor in late 2016, the journal's impact factor had dropped to a low of IF:1.196. I attributed this to a shift in archaeological practice — specially one that demanded flexibility in digital and geospatial data publishing. As such, I worked with the editor, Christina Luke, and publisher, Taylor & Francis, to develop an infrastructure for publishing and archiving digital and geospatial datasets. As a result, our impact fact increased to IF:1.866 when I left in 2019, equating to a 56% growth in impact.

[We] remember you very well, and still appreciate...your kind, generous, thoughtful, conscientious, and meticulous professional attentiveness and care to our manuscript and its proper preparation for the journal. We have worked "with" a number of other Editors and journals since then...but none have been as attentive and caring in their duties as were you. Believe me, you and your professionalism remain often thought of and very greatly appreciated by us to this day! |
Presentation DesignIn my role as a communicator and educator, I want to distill information and key points, but do so through compelling visuals that match and mirror an engaging verbal presentation. I strive for excellence across all modes of information delivery so that all moments are opportunities to capture, convey, and convince an audience. Employing design as a tool to communicate and make knowledge accessible to diverse learners, I created reliability and consistency in a classroom and across courses. Here I add a few slide decks as examples of how I bridge design with content communication targeted for both specialist and non-specialists alike.

Prof. Clarke is always very engaging. She uses a ton of different mediums (infographics, videos, pictures, animations) to explain things, which is very helpful for people like me who don't learn well from just words on a slide. |
